New Jersey

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announced Monday that she has lifted the statewide state of emergency that was put in place ahead of a powerful winter storm that dropped close to a foot of snow in parts of the state from Sunday into Monday.

The state of emergency, which had been declared to help prepare for hazardous travel conditions and heavy snowfall, was lifted Monday afternoon as conditions improved and major roadways were cleared.

During a press conference, Governor Sherrill praised the work of the New Jersey Department of Transportation and local road crews for their effective and timely snow removal efforts.

She also thanked residents across New Jersey for heeding warnings to stay home during the height of the storm, noting that reduced travel helped significantly limit crashes and roadway incidents statewide.

While the emergency declaration has ended, the governor urged residents to remain cautious, as cold temperatures could lead to lingering icy conditions in some areas as cleanup continues.
