Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating two, unrelated fatal shootings.
At approximately 8:21 p.m. yesterday there was a shooting in the 100 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue. The victim has been identified at Joshua Dionicio, 18, of Newark. He pronounced dead at University Hospital at 8:51 p.m. yesterday.
Today, two people were shot outside Foxes Go-Go bar located on Passaic Street in Newark. Tywon Bandy, 26, of Cuthbert, Ga., was fatally shot during an altercation outside the bar. He was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 2:05 am.
A second person, a 26-year-old female patron, was also shot. She is in stable condition at University Hospital. Her name is not being released at this time.
