Authorities have charged a Georgia man in connection with a shooting that left a woman injured along a roadside in Boonton on December 24, 2025, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll and local law enforcement officials.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Old Boonton Road and Pocono Road in Denville, where a woman was found lying on the roadside with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her identity has not been released.
Investigators later determined the woman had been with 37-year-old Jovan Young, whose last known address is in Jonesboro, Georgia, earlier that day.
Both the victim and Young are from Georgia but have ties to New Jersey.
On December 25, officers located Young in Boonton and took him into custody.
Police also recovered a 9mm handgun and multiple magazines loaded with hollow-point ammunition.
Young was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
As of December 27, Young is charged with:
• Third-degree Endangering an Injured Person
• Second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
• Second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
• Fourth-degree Possession of Hollow-Point Cartridges
• Fourth-degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons or Ammunition
The investigation remains active, and additional charges are possible. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200.
