Fugitive Apprehension Team Apprehends Alleged Newark Double Shooting Suspect

Newark

A man who police said opened fire on two people last Sunday in Newark has been apprehended.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, his Fugitive Apprehension Team took **Mr. Elijah Gregory, 23, of Newark,** into custody and said he is wanted for a double shooting that occurred on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Although the charges lodged against Mr. Gregory are mere allegations and he is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, this is what Director Ambrose is saying that Mr. Gregory did.

At approximately 10 p.m.; a 29-year old male victim arrived at University Hospital for treatment after being shot in the 200-block of S. 6th Street.

The victim is in critical condition Dr. Ambrose said.

During the same incident, Director Ambrose is telling the public that during a search of the area, his officers located a second male shooting victim suffering non-life threatening injuries at the scene of the incident.

Detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify **Mr. Elijah Gregory** as a suspect in these shootings, and police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Police arrested Mr. Gregory today, without incident, and charged him with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
