Freehold Attorney Charged for Bringing Loaded Handgun to Courthouse

Freehold Township

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott announced today that an attorney from Freehold has been arrested and charged with having a loaded handgun while attempting to enter the Middlesex County Superior Courthouse.

Mr. Mark B. Jander, 29, of Freehold, has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, according to officials. Jander does not possess a permit to carry a firearm.

Police say that Jander was arrested and charged earlier today when a concealed loaded handgun was discovered by Middlesex County Sheriff’s Officers in the attorney’s briefcase as his belongings were being scanned at the security checkpoint at the courthouse. A search of his briefcase yielded the loaded fireman.

He was immediately taken into custody, reports say.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charge against Jander is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
