Police in Newark are on the search for the suspect/s that unloaded a barrage of gunfire near a school in Newark's South Ward early this afternoon.
Authorities said that four people was shot in the 200 block of Clinton Place sending scores of first responders to the scene where school officials at the George Washington Carver School was ordered locked down.
An Essex County spokesperson said one of the victims identified as James Elam, 22, of Newark succumb to his injuries at the scene. Authorities said three other victims were transported to an area hospital and are being treated for gunshot wounds.
The spokesperson said an investigation is on going and is being handled by the Essex County Homicide Task Force which includes the Newark Police Department.
Currently, there is no motive or suspects at this time the spokesperson said.
