Former Paterson School Teacher Charged with Aggravated Assault

Authorities announce the arrest of Vincent McDuffie, 48, formerly a teacher at Community Charter School of Paterson.

McDuffie was charged on June 8, 2017 with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of Sexual Assault, one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child for having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 14 year old female student between June of 2016 and May of 2017.

The arrest was the result of an investigation that initially began with the Paterson Police Department and continued by the Special Victims Unit of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Aggravated Sexual Assault is a First Degree crime that carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole; Sexual Assault is Second Degree crimes that carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the sentences to be served before parole; Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact is a Third Degree crime that carries a maximum sentence of up to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison and Endangering the Welfare of a Child is a Second Degree crime that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.

Vincent McDuffie was scheduled for a first appearance before the Honorable John F. Meola, P.J.M.C., at 1:30 this afternoon, in Courtroom 411 of the New Courthouse in Paterson.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite these accusations, the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
