Former Customs Agents at Newark Airport Acquitted in Hazing Case

Newark

Two former customs agents were acquitted Thursday of hazing charges.

Officials say Parmenio Perez, of Hawthorne, Michael Papagni, of Staten Island New York and Tito Catota, of Lyndhurst, in 2017 were charged for reportedly holding down colleagues on what were known as "rape tables" in a second-floor conference room in Terminal C.

According to authorities, all three agents were responsible for identifying dangerous contraband and threats to national security worked at Newark Liberty International Airport.

A federal jury in Newark Thursday acquitted Parmenio Perez and Michael Papagni. The third man, Tito Catota, pleaded guilty last year and is awaiting sentencing.
