EMS transported a Kearny firefighter to an area hospital after a fire broke out inside a duplex this afternoon causing minor injuries to the firefighter.
Crews responded to 394 Chestnut Street after receiving reports of a fire when they arrived to find heavy flames and thick smoke coming from the upper level of the home.
Crews were able to extinguish the flames and make their ways into the house to search for trapped and injured occupants.
There were no other injuries reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
