Fire Risk Prompts Recall of More Than 1 Million Jeep Wrangler Vehicles

New Jersey

Owners of certain Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles are being urged to take precautions after a major recall was announced involving more than one million vehicles nationwide.

According to a statement released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), FCA US is recalling approximately 1,076,999 model year 2021 through 2025 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles due to a defect that could increase the risk of fire.

Officials said the issue involves an electrical connection within the wiring of the electric hydraulic power steering pump.

The defect could cause surrounding materials to overheat, potentially leading to a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

As a safety measure, owners are advised to park affected vehicles outdoors and away from homes, garages, and other vehicles until repairs can be completed.

Federal safety officials noted that the recall follows an investigation into multiple reports of vehicle fires. NHTSA said it is aware of 51 fires and one reported injury that may be linked to the defect.

A repair solution is currently being developed. FCA US is expected to begin notifying vehicle owners once a remedy becomes available, with recall notification letters scheduled to be mailed beginning July 9.

Starting Thursday, June 11, owners will be able to check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website.

Motorists can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 for additional information.

Safety officials are encouraging drivers to download the SaferCar mobile app to receive notifications about recalls and vehicle safety concerns.
