Fire Leaves Man Critical in Plainfield

Fire officials in Plainfield are investigating a fire that erupting inside of an apartment building that critically injured a man.

According to Plainfield officials, shortly after 5:00 pm, the Plainfield Fire Division, Police and EMS Units responded to the Cedarbrook Apartments located at 1272 Park Avenue, Plainfield on the report of a fire on the eleventh floor.

Officials said, firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control as it was isolated within one apartment.

The sole male occupant of the apartment suffered from severe burns and was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingsyon where he is listed in critical condition at this time officials said.

A firefighter was also treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation and was transported to JFK Medical Center for observation.

It is anticipated that some residents will be displaced as there is apparent water damage to various apartments below the eleventh floor according to fire officials.

The Plainfield Fire Division is coordinating with the Red Cross, building management and family members to ensure adequate housing for all of those affected.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation.
