Fire Ignites Carriage House in Elizabeth

Elizabeth fire officials are investigating a fire that broke out Thursday evening inside a carriage house in Elizabeth, damaging a shed, that ultimately caused heavy thick smoke that was visible around the city.

Crews responded to 705 Newark Avenue where fire ignited inside a carriage house behind a vacant structure, according to officials.

Upon firefighters arrival, crews noticed heavy fire ripping through the carriage house which eventually spread to the shed.

A search of the shed, led to the discovery of four steel 55 gallon drums with unknown contents officials said.

According to officials, both the carriage house and the primary residence were vacant.

There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
