Franklin Township officials are investigating a residential fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon and damaged a detached garage and nearby shed, authorities said.
According to a statement released by Lloyd Fredericks, the Franklin Township Police Department responded at approximately 4:08 p.m. on Jan. 7 to a report of a fire at a home on Hamilton Street.
When officers arrived, they discovered an active fire in a detached garage located behind the residence.
The flames later spread to a shed situated along Brookline Avenue, prompting a multi-agency fire response.
Fire crews from East Franklin, Community, Somerset Fire and Rescue, Middlebush, New Brunswick, and North Brunswick worked together to contain and extinguish the blaze.
During emergency operations, Hamilton Street was temporarily shut down between Hawthorne Drive and Highland Avenue to allow firefighters to safely work the scene.
No injuries to residents or emergency responders were reported.
The Franklin Township Fire Prevention Department is continuing to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Fire Prevention Director John Hauss at 732-873-2500, extension 6305.
