Fifth Newark Shooting in 24 Hours Targets South Ward Community

In a concerning escalation of violence, Newark's South Ward community was the scene of the fifth shooting incident in less than 24 hours in the city.  AdA ShotSpotter device alerted police to the violence at the intersection of Shephard Avenue and Osborne Terrace. Gunmen unloaded a barrage of gunfire, causing property damage around 2 p.m.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered roughly half a dozen shell casings and a vehicle that had been hit by bullets. An extensive search of the vicinity revealed no victims. 

Newark Police also conducted a check of a nearby building for suspects believed to be involved in the shooting, though no arrests were immediately reported.

Authorities are calling for anyone with information to come forward as they work tirelessly to address this alarming trend and restore peace to the affected neighborhoods.
