A shots fired investigation with a confirmed hit on a female victim in Newark's West Ward has authorities searching for suspects responsible for the shooting.
Police responded to a ShotsSpotter activation that indicated a possible shooting on Smith Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. where officers arrived to find several shell casings, but after a search of the area, there were no victims located.
While police were at the scene investigating, they were informed that a private vehicle arrived at the firehouse on Palm and Sanford Avenue with a female suffering gunshot wounds.
EMS transported he to the hospital where her injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.
According to reports, the suspects wore a mask and fled the scene in a vehicle.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
