Father Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Unlawfully Concealing his Daughters Human Remains in Jersey City

Hudson County

On Friday, June 21, 2019, Superior Court Judge Patrick Arre sentenced Travis Plummer to a maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison — 10 without parole — following his conviction for the Unlawful Concealment of Human Remains relating to his daughter’s body being found in a suitcase in 2018.

Due to his prior record, officials say Plummer, 38, of Richmond, Virginia, was eligible to be sentenced to an extended term in state prison.

According to officials during the course of the trial earlier this year, the State presented evidence that Te’Myah Layuana Plummer, born on May 19, 2016, died at some point in late summer 2017.

The defendant thereafter concealed her body in a suitcase which he brought to Jersey City on November 1, 2017 and then kept in his garage for four months.

In March 2018, Plummer dumped the suitcase off the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge in Jersey City onto the side of the PATH train tracks before fleeing to Miami and then Puerto Rico.

Officials say Te’Myah’s body was discovered by Port Authority employees on April 11, 2018.

According to officials, on Tuesday, April 9, a jury convicted Plummer for Unlawful Concealment of Human Remains after a nine-day trial.

The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Lynne Seborowski of the Homicide Unit.

The Honorable Patrick Arre, J.S.C., presided over the matter.
