Fatal Injuries Reported in Early Morning Newark Car Crash

A violent car crash that resulted in a vehicle bursting into flames on a Newark highway left at least one person dead according to officials.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes of Route 1&9 near McClellan Street -just before 3:45 a.m.- where emergency responders were informed of a collision with a vehicle on fire at that location.

Crews arrived at the scene and found a fully engulfed vehicle that reportedly lost control then struck a pole before it crashed into an overpass.

The impact of the crash caused the car to overturn over a guardrail with occupants still inside according to reports.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and there are reports of one other seriously injured person according to authorities.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
