Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 2:45 p.m. to a building in the 400 block of Third Street after multiple reports of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy flames coming from the second floor of a two-story building and stretched as many as three hose lines to battle the blaze.

While firefighters were working to contain the fire, they learned that at least one person was believed to be trapped inside.

Attempts to enter the building were initially hampered by intense fire conditions, with flames venting through second-floor windows and spreading throughout the structure.

Once conditions allowed, firefighters were able to make entry and remove one individual from the building.

The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death remain under active investigation by county and local authorities.

No additional details have been released at this time.
