The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office will handle the investigation into a pedestrian strike that severely injured three people in Irvington Township on Thursday nights.
Emergency responders rushed to a section of Springfield Avenue near Lyons Avenue to investigate reports of a person struck by a car around 8 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found three individuals injured at that location.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said all three victims were taken to University Hospital for treatment and the driver stayed at the scene.
Police are trying determine what caused the driver to lose control of the auto and hit the pedestrians.
The investigation is continuing, officials said.
