Elizabeth woman sentenced for fatally stabbing brother
An Elizabeth woman has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison for fatally stabbing her brother in 2012, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Friday.
Vanessa Fowler, 52, must serve at least 85 percent of that sentence before the possibility of parole,
according to the terms imposed by sentencing state Superior Court Judge Thomas J. Walsh.
Fowler had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated manslaughter. The date was September 21, 2012 when she got into an argument with 47-year-old Tyrone Fowler, also of Elizabeth, in the rooming house where she lived, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Scott Peterson, who prosecuted the case.
The argument became heated, and Vanessa Fowler stabbed her brother once in the chest as she attempted to force him out of her room, Peterson said. He was later pronounced dead.
