Bergen County

An elderly couple was found dead inside their Bergen County home Saturday night in what authorities believe was an accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to police, officers and firefighters responded to a residence on the 2 Lexington Lane after receiving a request for a wellness check at approximately 9:21 p.m.

Upon entering the home, emergency responders detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide and natural gas.

An 84-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities determined that carbon monoxide from a vehicle left running inside the home’s garage was the cause of the deadly incident.

Police said the deaths appear to be accidental, and investigators do not suspect foul play.

The incident remains under investigation.
