ELDERLY LINDEN WOMAN INJURED IN CRASH

Linden

An 86-year-old woman and a man in his 50's were injured today when their vehicles collided at North Stiles and West Elm Street, police said.

The elderly woman was driving her 1976 Oldsmobile south on North Stiles Street and turned left onto West Elm Street when her vehicle struck a 2003 Chevrolet Van that was heading north on North Stiles Street shortly after 10:30 this morning, Linden Police Captain James Sarnicki said.

When police arrived, the elderly Linden resident, whose identity was not immediately released,  was found laying on the ground, Sarnicki said. It was unclear if she was thrown from her car or exited the vehicle after the crash, the captain added.

She was taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of a head injury.

The male driver, also Linden a resident, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway for treatment of a back injury.

Police investigating the crash.
