Elderly Couple Scammed Out of $1.9K in Roselle Park

Roselle Park

Police are investigating a report of a scam that left an elderly couple with $1,900 in money lost.

According to police, on Oct. 26th, two elderly residents reported that at approximately 1 p.m., two males wearing construction type clothing and driving a white pickup truck greeted them at their residence on E. Westfield Avenue.

The 89-year-old tenant, was told by one of the individuals that the landlord sent them to collect $1,900 dollars for the repair they made to the roof.

The victim stated that she did not have that amount of money on her so the individuals reportedly coaxed her into the pickup and drove her to a local bank to withdraw the money.

After doing so, the suspects drove the woman back to her residence and drove away from the area.

It wasn’t until after speaking to the landlord later in the day, that they couple realized it was a scam.

Anyone with any similar incidents or information regarding this case are advised to contact the Roselle Park Police Department at 908-245-2300.
