Police from East Orange and Newark are investigating a reported armed robbery that sent a man to the hospital after he was shot by his assailants.
According to preliminary reports, Newark Police were called to the 50's block of South 12th Street after reports of an injured person inside a van at that location.
Arriving units located the victim who was suffering a gunshot injury according to reports.
The man reported to authorities that he was shot in the parking lot of the East Orange Dunkin Donuts that is located on Central Avenue and Grove Street shortly before police located him.
A male suspect allegedly approached the victim's van armed with a gun and demanded cash according to the victim.
While handing over cash, the suspect fired a shot into the van then fled the scene.
The victim then drove to the 12th Street location where residents in the area called police.
The suspect allegedly too over $2000 in cash from the victim.
There were non-life threatening injuries reported in the shooting.
