Authorities in Union County announced that Tariq Frye, 19, of East Orange, was arrested and charged with burglary after a citizen saw him enter a parked vehicle.

According to Linden Police, just before noon on Wednesday, June 14, Officers responded to the 900 block of Bacheller Avenue after a witness reported that they observed a man walk up the driveway to a nearby home and attempt to enter a car parked in the driveway.

Police said the doors to the car were locked, however, and the suspect eventually left the area.

The man’s description was shared to other units in the area, and a Parking Enforcement Officer reported that he saw the man walking on E. Edgar Road (Route 1).

According to the Police, officers responded to the area and, after a short investigation, identified Frye as the suspect and placed him under arrest.

“

"Car burglary has been a problem of epidemic proportions across this state for several years, and there are, unfortunately, significant challenges that make it difficult for us to arrest and charge these criminals,” said Police Chief David Hart.

"As this case clearly demonstrates, the solution to this problem rests with the members of our community.

By locking vehicles, reporting suspicious activity right away, and cooperating with Police investigations, we can significantly reduce these crimes together.”

Frye was charged with third-degree burglary and released on a summons pending a scheduled appearance in Superior Court.

Detectives believe that Frye may be involved in similar crimes throughout the area, and additional witnesses or victims are encouraged to contact the Linden Police Detective Bureau at (908) 474-8537
