East Newark Man Arrested After Alleged Incident at Kearny Public Library

An East Newark man has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged incident involving a juvenile at the Kearny Public Library, authorities announced.

According to the Kearny Police Department, Rolando Carballo, 59, was taken into custody on February 7, 2026, on a warrant complaint stemming from an investigation led by Detective Castaneda.

 

Police said the charges relate to an incident reported on January 16, 2026, at the Kearny Public Library. Investigators determined that Carballo allegedly inappropriately touched a juvenile while displaying obscene material.

 

As a result of the investigation, Carballo has been charged with:

Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Third Degree)

Obscenity for Persons Under 18 (Third Degree)

Criminal Sexual Contact (Fourth Degree)

Lewdness (Disorderly Persons Offense)

 

Authorities said Carballo was located in North Arlington and arrested by Detective Castaneda with assistance from other Kearny police officers. 

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Chief Scott Macfie emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting children.

 

“The safety of our children is non-negotiable. Our public buildings, including our libraries, must remain safe places for families. When that trust is violated, our officers will act swiftly to hold those responsible accountable,” Chief Macfie said.
