Eary Morning Shooting Victim Arrives at Newark Hospital

An early morning shooting has police in Newark investigating.

The shooting happened at around 3 a.m. in the area of North 5th Street and Orange Street where officers arrived to the scene to find evidence of a shooting and a blood trail that stretched several blocks according to reports.

A search of the area did not locate any victims.

Officials from University Hospital contacted Newark Police when a male victim walked into the hospital at around 3:30 a.m. suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the arm.

The victim reported to authorities that a male suspect approached on North 5th Street and fired several shots at him before running from the scene.

His injuries were not reported to be life threatening.

The shooting remains under investigation.
