Early Morning Newark Gunfire Strikes Victim in the Face

Police in Newark are conducting a shots-fired investigation that connected on a male in Newark's South Ward early Sunday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, gunfire erupted in the vicinity of Hunter Street and Sherman Avenue at around 2:20 a.m. where police made their way to the scene for the investigation.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering a non-life threatening bullet wound in his cheek according to reports.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital, where doctors began to treat his injury.

Police have not reported an arrest or motive for the shooting at this time.

There were no other injuries reported.
