Early Morning Gunfire Strikes Adult, Juvenile in Newark’s Central Ward

Police in Newark looking into the motive behind a shooting that injured two victims in the city’s South Ward Wednesday morning. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 2:40 a.m., officials at University Hospital contacted police after an adult and a juvenile entered the emergency department suffering bullet wounds. 

According to authorities,  Rutgers Police secured two vehicles in the parking lot that transported the victims to the medical center. 

Police say one of the victims told police that shooters fired multiple shots in their direction in the vicinity of 18th and Hunterdon. 

Several police units arrived at the location and found several shell casings on the ground, but no other victims were found after a search of the area. 

The condition of one of the victims has been reported as serious at this time.
