Early Morning Colts Neck Shooting Under Investigation

Police in Colts Neck are on the search for a suspect who fired off a gun on Route 18 striking at least one person early Sunday morning.

According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Route 18 near exit 19A just before 2 a.m.

Upon their arrival at the scene, they found two victims injured at that location.

One of the victims did suffer a gunshot wound while police are attempting to determine if gunfire struck the second victim.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital while police diverted traffic on the highway for the investigation which is in its early stages police said.

UPDATED 10am: 54-year-old Earl Sanders of Neptune who was the driver of a 2009 Mercedes Benz C350 was killed and their 52-year-old passenger was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries. Both suffering gunshot wounds.
