On-Duty Paterson Police Officer Dies in Car Crash

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announce that the Paterson Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Tamby Yagan, who died while on duty.

Police say at approximately 10:50 a.m., police responded to the area of 150 Getty Avenue in the City of Paterson in response to a motor vehicle collision.

According to police, upon their arrival they discovered that Officer Yagan, who was on duty and had been operating a marked patrol unit, had been involved in a collision with a parked vehicle.

Police say Officer Yagan was the only person involved in the crash and was transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

No other parties were injured as a result of this crash. The incident is being investigated by the New Jersey State Police and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office fatal accident Unit.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. More information will be released once it becomes available.
