Driver of School Bus Carrying Children Crashes After Reported Overdose in Newark

They were no severe injuries reported when a school bus carrying children crashed after the driver reportedly overdosed on heroin while operating the vehicle.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of Jones and 14th Avenue according to police.

The female driver of the bus was administered Narcan and revived after going unconscious while operating the bus according to Newark Police.

The incident is under investigation by Newark Police.

UPDATE 2:10pm: There were 11 kids on the bus with no serious injuries. The Newark Police Department Special Victims Unit and The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are on the scene to charge the bus driver.

UPDATE 4:10PM F&A Transport of East Orange is the bus company and the students were from 14th Avenue School.
