Driver Injured After Car Crashed Into Tree on I-280 in Orange

A car driver suffered serious injuries after crashing on a highway in Essex County late Saturday night. 

According to police, the collision happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-280 near mile marker 11.2

Police said when emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found a car slammed into a tree with one person trapped inside. 

Firefighters extricated the victim and then handed them over to EMS to be transported to an area hospital to treat serious injuries. 

Police say they are trying to determine if the driver was involved in at least two other crashes that happened near milepost 11 on 280 around the same time. 

The cause of the collision has not been determined at this time.
