Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a woman injured early this morning in the city.
The West Ward shooting occurred on Schofield Street where cops were called to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired.
Units arrived to find several shell casings and a seriously injured, 30-year-old, female victim suffering a gunshot wound to the head according to initial reports from the scene.
EMS rushed the victim to University in a conscious and alert state reports said. .
Police extended their crime scene for a few blocks after cops located a crime scene in the 100 block of Schofield.
According to witnesses, a white or light colored Ford Expedition pulled up to the scene with a male suspect firing a gun out of the window of the vehicle.
The identity of the woman ind extent of the injury has not been released authorities said.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
