Double "Walk-In" Shooting Victims Cause Newark Hospital to Lock Down; Victims Transported in Private Vehicle

Newark New Jersey

Police setup a large crime scene on a South Ward street after gunfire rang out late last night had two people transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Officials at the Newark Beth Israel Hospital quickly went into lock down mode after two victims suffering multiple gunshot wounds followed by a large crowd arrived at the hospital shortly before 11:15 p.m.

Police were called to the hospital when the male victims entered the hospital's emergency room located in the 200 block of Lyons Ave.

One of the victims reported to authorities that the shooting had occurred in the area of Lyons Ave. and Leslie Street a short time before he arrived to the hospital.

A large crime scene was established on Lyons Ave. from Leslie Street to the Irvington Border where authorities searched for evidence and a possible shooter. Police processed a vehicle at the hospital that was struck by multiple gunshots. The van was reportedly the vehicle that transported the victims.

The most seriously injured of the pair was transferred to University Hospital where the extent of his injuries are unknown as of 3:30 a.m.
