Police have West Market Street shut down in the 300 block near Georgia King Village as officers are on the scene investigating a shots fired incident with a connection on one (1) person at this time.
Several gun blasts erupted in the 300 block of West Market Street at around 9:15 a.m. sending police to the scene where a very brief search of the area had officers locate a severely wounded person.
EMS units are on the scene but technicians have not removed the victim from a vehicle at this time. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office have confirmed the male victim dead at 10:59am.
This is the second shooting in the same vicinity that occurred in less than a six (6) hour time span.
If you are traveling in the downtown area or towards West Market Street, you are going to want to detour off as traffic is becoming heavy.
**ECPO UPDATE 10:59am** This is a confirmed homicide investigation.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
