Police officers in Paterson searched the area of 12th Avenue and East 23rd Street for a crime scene after a male was dropped off at a hospital in the city suffering bullet wounds.
According to a preliminary police investigation, offcials at the St. Joseph's Hospital contacted police when a male victim entered the emergency room suffering gunshot wounds at approximately 4:50 a.m.
The victim reported to police that while he was in the 12th Avenue area, he heard multiple gunshot blasts and began to run from the scene but felt immediate pain in his leg.
The victim's injuries have been reported as non-life threatening at this time.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
