DEVELOPING: Severe Injuries Reported for Male Shot Multiple Times in Newark’s West Ward

Police in Newark are reporting life-threatening injuries for a man found shot multiple times in Newark this afternoon. 

It happened in a section of the city's upper West Ward around 1:45 p.m. 

Officer responded to gunfire that rang out in the area of South Orange Avenue and Telford Street. 

When units arrived, they found the victim struck by bullets in the chest and head at that location. 

Police say the victim was rushed to University Hospital for treatment and is currently fighting to live. 

The incident is right on the East Orange border so authorities are determining were the victim was shot at. 

 

The suspect fled the scene and remain at-large 

Avoid the area for the police investigation. 

UPDATE: This is a confirmed homicide investigation with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office on the lead.
