DEVELOPING PATERSON NJ: Traffic Stop Ends in Weapon Confiscation

A tip made to Passaic County authorities reporting a person armed with a gun and driving near a location in Paterson had fast responding police stop the driver of the vehicle then make an arrest Sunday afternoon.

Details regarding what transpired during the incident is pending a police information requests, but according to preliminary reports, there were reports of a possible sexual assault that occurred at an unspecified location in Paterson where a woman told police that a man in a dark vehicle assaulted her.

Police searched for the driver of the vehicle who they believed was armed with a gun at approximately 11:25 a.m.

Officers from Paterson and The Passaic County Police Department caught up with the vehicle in the vicinity of Memorial Drive and West Broadway where they activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to get the driver to stop according to reports.

The male Hispanic driver did indeed stop the car and was immediately placed into custody when officers reportedly found a firearm inside the vehicle.

Police did not confirm if the suspect committed a sexual assault and the investigation into the incident is in its early stages.
