DEVELOPING NEWARK-WESTFIELD NJ: High Speed Pursuit That Began in Westfield Ends in Newark Crash

A high-speed pursuit of a vehicle occupied by a suspect/s, who attempted to evade police officers from Westfield, ended with the suspect crashing in the Newark's South Ward this morning -Thursday-.

According to preliminary reports, police in Westfield began following a vehicle that was reported stolen and attempted to pull the driver over at approximately 5:45 a.m.

The driver ignored officers and sped away; ultimately leading to a high-speed chase onto Route 22's eastbound lanes.

According to reports, the driver was able to reach the Newark city limits, but then he crashed in the vicinity of Elizabeth and Wilbur avenues where he bailed from the car and led police on a foot pursuit.

Newark Police officers captured at least one suspect and turned the perpetrator over to Westfield officers to face charges.

There were no injuries reported.
