DEVELOPING NEWARK NJ: South Ward Gunfire Strikes Male

Police are canvassing a Newark South Ward neighborhood for evidence of a shooting after 911 calls alerted them of gunfire erupting i the area.

The incident happened at approximately 5:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Schley Street where police responded to reports of shots fired.

While investigating at the scene, officers were informed that a male victim was dropped off at Beth Israel Hospital suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

The driver of the car that dropped the victim off left the scene according to preliminary reports.

Police are looking for a dark gray vehicle four-door vehicle that fired shots at the victim.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Avoid the area for the investigation.
