Police are on the scene of a shooting with one person struck by gunfire at a location in Newark's Central Ward at this time.
According to preliminary reports, a ShotSpotter activation alerted police of about a dozen rounds of gunfire in the 300 block of West Kenney Street at approximately 6:55 p.m.
Police officers arrived at the scene and found one person struck by bullets at that location.
Police have the area taped off as they conduct the investigation. The motive for the shooting has not been determined.
UPDATE: The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are on the scene to take over the investigation.This is a confirmed homicide investigation.
