DEVELOPING NEWARK NJ: Shooting Leaves Man Critical in Newark

Police have a crime scene established on Speedway Avenue as detectives investigate a shots fired incident that connected on a man this evening.

According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 50's block of Speedway Avenue at around 9:15 p.m. where officers arrived and found a man suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

EMS rushed the man to University Hospital where doctors are preparing the process of treating critical injuries.

There are no arrests reported and avoid the area for the investigation.

In an unrelated incident, gunfire rang out in the area of Avon Avenue and Hunterdon Street at around 4:30 p.m. where Newark Police officials said a gunman fired multiple rounds at an unknown target then sped away from the scene in a car.

Police searched the area for injured victims, but there were none located according to Newark Police officials.

The South Ward shooting left property damage in the area.
