Police are on the scene of a shooting with one person struck by bullets in a Newark East Ward neighborhood.
Gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 159 Pennington Street just before 4:30 p.m. sending a host of police and emergency responders to the scene where they found the victim suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police are looking for a gray colored vehicle with NY plates -possibly a Kia- that's occupied by suspects who were observed firing shots at the victim before it sped away from the scene.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where doctors began treatment. The victim may have been an innocent bystander.
Police have several streets blocked off near Pennington, Tichenor, South, and Dawson so avoid the area for the investigation.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
