There is an investigation underway into a police-involved shooting that occurred in a neighborhood in the city's West Ward this morning.
Details are continuing to develop, but according to preliminary reports, the incident appears to be a home invasion attempt where an off-duty corrections officer fired his weapon at a perpetrator in the 70's block Carolina Avenue at around 10 a.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is en route to the scene to assist in the investigation.
There are no reports of serious injuries reported to the officers at this time.
The condition of the perpetrator is currently unknown.
