Police are on the scene of shots fired and a man down in Newark's South Ward at this time.
There is a crime scene established in the 100 block of Hawthorne Avenue that expands to Badger and Jeliff Avenues after police responded to reports of shots fired.
Officers found a man shot inside of a vehicle at that location.
The victim reportedly suffered a gunshot injury to the face and is being transported to University Hospital suffering life-threatening injuries.
Officers located one other vehicle struck by gunfire according to reports.
A dark colored SUV was observed speeding away from the scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
