DEVELOPING NEWARK NJ: Man Shot in the Back in Newark

Newark Police have a crime scene established in the vicinity of Dickerson and Morris Avenue as they investigate a shooting with a man down at that location.

The investigation into the shooting is in its early stages, but according to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out just before 4:45 p.m. where officers arrived and found the window of a vehicle blasted out and a male victim suffering bullet wounds to his back outside of the car.

EMS arrived and transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment while police canvassed the scene for other possible victims.

Police are also attempting to see if this shooting is connected to a shots fired investigation that just occurred on 16th Avenue and Fairmont. The vehicle that officers found on Dickerson with the windows shot out was observed driving near 16th Avenue according to preliminary reports.

The extent of the victim's injuries have not been released.

**UPDATE 5:17 PM:** At this time, the victim is in stable condition.
