Police are on the scene of a shooting with one person down on a Newark South Ward street at this time.
According to preliminary reports, gunshot erupted in the vicinity of 569 Hunterdon Street an approximately 6 a.m. sending police to the scene where they arrived to find a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg at that location.
The conscious but intoxicated male was transported to University Hospital where he experienced severe bleeding according to reports.
Police located at least one shell casing during their search for evidence and other victims.
There is no confirmed motive for the shooting at this time.
