There is a crime scene established that spans several blocks in Newark's South Ward as detectives are on the scene investigating a shooting that has a male badly hurt at this time.
The incident happened in the vicinity of 179 Hansbury Avenue at approximately 5:10 p.m. where gunfire rang out striking the victim who was reportedly inside a vehicle.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital under police guard suffering severe injuries.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
There are no arrests reported.
