Police in Newark’s West Ward are on the scene of a shooting with a male down at this time.
According to authorities, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of South 20th Street and Springfield Avenue at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Officers arrived and found the unconscious victim suffering bullet wounds at that location.
Police set up a crime scene as they awaited EMS to arrive at the scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the suspect remains at-large.
**UPDATE 8:08PM:** The victim is being transported to University Hospital. Police are closing Springfield Avenue to traffic at 20th Street.
